We were able to find a lovely campground on St. James Island, near Folly Beach outside of Charleston. This county park is 15 minutes to downtown Charleston and has many acres of land, pathways, a lake, playgrounds, a dog park, and large splash pad...perfect for any family getaway. It seems to be the only camping area near Charleston so we were lucky to find such a wonderland. Our first stay lasted a week as we arranged the camper and the truck to meet our needs and decided that we brought way too much.
A return trip to Charlotte was next because our vacation to Mexico was next on the agenda. The weather was spring like again as we left for the airport never guessing what was in store weather wise for us when we got back.
Mexico naturally was wonderful but a little cooler than we expected. The sun did shine every day and the resort was full of running paths for us to use as well as wonderful food, fun people and the beach. We have been to Mexico several tines and this is the first time we both got sick. As always when I get sick, Denny gets really sick but fortunately we were feeling better in 24 hours. A shuttle bus took us to Playa de Carmen for the afternoon and we were surprised of how it has grown and developed over the past few years.
After a week, we were back in Charlotte, thawing out the camper and getting ready for the road again. The next stop was Florida where we plan to spend the rest of the winter. I did make a few reservations a year ago when we had this in mind because the parks really fill up quickly especially in the southern part of the state.
We are currently in White Springs at Steven Foster Folk State Park. Again it is a lovely place and came highly recommended but it is located in northern Florida and we are still hoping that the temp will soon climb above 65 degrees. Because of the cold temps in Charlotte, where the camper stayed while we were in Mexico, we had to make repairs. Our camper is simple and Denny is handy... a really good combination. And now he has the time to work without time constraints adding to the pressure. We are now all fixed and ready to go.
Yesterday was another milestone in our adventure. We became residents of Florida and have new drivers licenses. This all took place in Green Cove Springs where our mail service is located and our address. However when people ask us where we are from, we still say Michigan (where our hearts are).
